Following the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society’s Annual Meeting, held on Friday 6th March at the T3 Conference Centre, the prestigious President’s Award was presented to James and Valerie Eccles from Ballymena.
Traditionally awarded to an individual, this accolade acknowledges Society members who have made a significant contribution over a period of years. This year, the award was presented to joint winners James and Valerie in recognition of their exceptional dedication and the invaluable behind-the-scenes support they have provided to the charity over the years.
When Valerie joined the Society in 2001, she made an impression amongst her fellow members from the outset thanks to her enthusiasm and personable approach. Her presence at the RUAS Membership Stand in particular has always made visitors and new members alike feel welcome from the second they enter the showgrounds.
James, having exhibited the family's prized Jersey cattle at the Balmoral Show since the early 1990's, later followed in Valerie’s footsteps and became a member of the RUAS. Together they were a force to be reckoned with both within and beyond the ring as they also exhibited their Kerry Hill sheep, and beloved Dexter cattle.
As stewards they continue to approach their volunteer duties with a distinct focus and commitment, making them an asset to the various roles they have stepped into over the years behind the scenes.
